i would never join army simply because if a country went to war with your own cause you already had basic training your next in line if they need more troops .... and then after that they will be scouting the public. and fuk being shot .

I still don't see the appeal of joining the army. Are you all that patriotic or is it just 'cool' to say that you served?

ehmm its been said many times that in some countries its still obligatory -.-'
I dont go to become a war hero by cleaning toilets, painting and doing a lot of other useless shit, neither for the crazy salary of 8,62E/month i receive (btw they owe me 2 months >.<)
Only thing is nice is the few training we get and im considered a lucky since im in the few ppl that actually get in a tank and shoot a few times... The rest 2500 soldiers that joined the tank division with me (in August) r only going to do many services (most of them useless) and a lot of chores...

aw that sucks, with the salary and the obligatory service Sad

Anyway, I went to the military just so I could use it as a merit for the university that I'm going, which is cooperating with the police. So there you have it. If I get pulled out into war I don't care, since most men will be pulled out. Just that they won't have any basic training.

All of us who served here the past years were conscripts, whether your a patriot, think its cool or just a moron has nothing to do with it.

I can't speak for other countries, but I've learned A LOT about my self the year I served. And I was well payed during the period. It also opened up a lot of jobs and will make it a lot easier to get the jobs. The military records can be checked by the employer and so if you did well and it appears you are a really good guy, its a sure bet you'll be hired compared to someone who didn't serve or failed.

That said my country doesn't really have many risks serving, whether you wish to serve in international service or inland is MY OWN choice.

I earned a lot of friends and I would gladly give it another year if the platoon could come together again.

The army isn't really held in a high regard in my country, so I'm not that sure about it opening up a lot of jobs. And since we're dealing with a crisis here, I doubt the pay is that good. Especially with the budget cuts.

Even if that didn't apply, with the ongoing wars and the risks of being sent to Afghanistan or wherever doesn't seem worth all that to me.

Belgians have a historical antipathy towards armies.
