Laptop help!

Post by *Hule* on Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:40 am

Found this laptop on the Internet and think it's pretty OK. Could someone enlighten me a bit about whether it is that good or not, since I'm not so familiar with the laptop stuff.
The computer won't be for me but for my girlfriend instead so it doesn't need to run the latest games or any of that crap.
The main point would be that it will do fine with everyday school projects and this kind of stuff.

Stats:

Please take the effort of clicking that link and checking the specs.
Any help wanted albino alien

P.S. I'm curious myself about the graphics card.. whether it's sucky, bad, OK, good or the best xD

HP is a decent brand and the specs looks quite alright. Had mine in for a repairs a few times though. I recommend Asus though if you find one for your needs.

Reviews are generally good. If you don't have a problem with anything stated below, it should be fine.

Drawbacks given below:
"The new dv6 series' spectrum in terms of equipment reaches from the low-price multimedia-beginner (to which the 1199eg model at hand would have to be numbered among) up to reasonably priced middle class notebooks, which will meet a large interested audience, thanks to their positioning below the mark of 1000 euros. The models of higher value are also definitely to be seen as competition to the HDX16 series, which comes in an almost identical case. Apart from the FullHD display, they also remain within reach of the P8600 CPU and the ATI HD 4650 graphics card (at the moment the dv6 series' strongest possible combination) in terms of performance. One should definitely get this equipment when having an ambition towards computer games.

The dv6 can, like the HDX16, also score with an especially ample configuration of ports. However, one meets the same sticky, high-gloss surfaces, as far as the input devices are concerned, only in different colors. Here, the mirrored touch pad has to be seen as the peak of artistic proliferation.

The display features a resolution of 1366x768 pixels in the 16:9 HD format, but one has to come to terms with the specular surface, which can lead to disturbing reflections indoors as well.
The dv6-1199eg's soundscape will also definitely take some getting used to, as the fan is permanently running even without load, whereby the notebook is always present to the ear. The surface's temperatures albeit always stay within a carefree scope.

The notebook's battery life is also somewhat stingy for our taste. While one can still think of practical usage with a little over two hours during WLAN operating and surfing, the 1.5 hours for DVD playback come off very narrowly.
Altogether, the dv6-1199eg offers a good total package for those multimedia-beginners who have low demands but are oriented towards design. More ambitious users should rather get a more powerful variant in order to be able to enjoy the one or other computer game."

PS: If you're indifferent between options, it's always good to compare manufacturer names.

it's nice. More than enough for school projects and watching movies. It can also play games decently.

but like vegard said....asus makes very good laptops these days. It would be my first choice for a mainstream laptop as well.

There was a flaw with that computer I was talking about. Several people had returned it to the store because of a certain malfunction with something so she didn't buy it.
The search shall continue, maybe we'll check that Asus -thingy out

serieusly, if it's for school stuff, you can get a laptop that costs 100 bucks and you'll hardly notice the difference between it and something with 4 cores and motherboard that can fly.

Totally right. If you're buying it for office/school use, I'd say buy a cheap model of a famous brand that has widespread technical support and sufficient warranty that's all.

She got a Toshiba laptop. This one seems pretty fine, she purchased it while I was in the States.
The first option would've been an Asus one but since this one had almost the same specs and less price her decision was this.

Seems like this has a dual core processor (AMD Athlon P320), 4GB of RAM, 640GB of hard drive space. The graphic card is something like ATI mobility radeon HD 5650.
So this is pretty fine, writing on that laptop right now.
