Good Literature

Post by Boomlala on Fri May 15, 2009 8:43 am

I'm getting into reading again after enjoying Animal Farm (some time ago) and 1984 so much, so I decided to ask you: what classics are a must-read, you think?

I stepped by the local library and got copies of Golding's classic Lord of the Flies (awesome title name) and the first part of Dante's Divina Commedia (Inferno). What should I pick up next time? I have no preferenced time period or genre, I read anything. I would like to read 'classics' however (works that are considered very influencial, must-read, ...) I was thinking about Shelley's Frankenstein and a Shakespearean play (Twelfth Night comes to mind), along with Purgatorio, but it's up to you.

read the discovery of heaven by Mulish, it's great.
You can also read 'de aanslag' wich I heard was good too.
An other book I rly liked (boring, but a must) was Herzog by Saul Bellow. It's phylosophical and like very intellectual.

Jesus...all the stuff you listed I was forced to read through High School

Lord of the Flies was fucking awful.

Check out Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander series or the Bourne trilogy. Both fucking kick ass.

The books are far better than the movies, even though that's usually the case, the story is quite different...and far better.

Actually, as a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure there's a new Bourne book out, too. Can't really call it a trilogy anymore.

Read Lord of the Flies today. Brilliant but quite the anticlimactic end. I always take the anticlimactic books, it seems.

I don't read much myself. Some Star Wars books are nice, though.
Maybe I should take up reading more.
