Good Song

Post by Boomlala on Thu Feb 05, 2009 10:43 am

One of the better 'modern songs'. Christina Aguilera is my favorite female artist by far.

Christina Aguilera's changed her looks a lot in all this time. She's been hot always, though.

From plain hot
to trashy hot
to classy 50s hot

That's damn hot.

anyway...
I think Christina Aguilera's music is a bit comercial.
It's much like Brittany Spears or Kate Ryan or who ever.
If I want to hear stuff like that I just turn on a radio, and I hate radios

*Britney

It's called "the mainstream" music. The kind that's played on the radio 24/7 and is made just for money, not for the joy of making real music.

Of course a bit exaggaration, but that's how I see it. The best music comes from those who don't make it in order to get rich, but to please theirselves by making the type of music they like the best.

Re: Good Song

I think Aguilera is in an entire different league than Kate Ryan (who isn't even known very well outside Belgium) and Britney Spears (a reasonable good artist [her private problems are her own] but certainly not as good as Xtina).

Besides, Aguilera tried to do something new with her 3rd album. Her Dirrty one was all about the commercial success, her 3rd one was more about original content.

EDIT: besides, mainstream music isn't automatically bad. Most good songs are/were mainstream once. Creativity has nothing to do with it, the trend is truly defining here (synthpop isn't mainstream right now, for example, but in the late 80s it was). In fact, lots of non-mainstream music has less creativity than me in art class (I am pointing at 'emo' and 'satinist' music here, hell, even I can write such fuckass putrid bullshit lyrics).

Also, (unrelated to the topic at hand) there is this female singer with black hair (it looks colored, but I haven't watched the video for more than 3 ms) on the television all the time, and her song drives me goddamn nuts. Just like the Jonas Brothers, who sing about bullshit, and all those other crap-one-of-a-dozen rock groups everybody listens to, buys cds from, watches concerts off, lulling music producers into thinking that this is the new best music, leading to them producing even more commercialised crap, which leads to even more balls-to-the-meat-grinder music.

There's mainstream music that isn't commercial too, just not that much(especialy not anymore). Mainstream is more like the music for people who aren't really into music; they just want to hear some nice tunes. Those people own radio.
Aguilera is somewhere on the edge of comerciality I guess.

Often artists do start off making their music for fun instead of money. It's producers that aim for money; that's why all(most) female singers you see on tv or hear on the radio are hot. It sells better.
An 'ugly' singer will have more troubles finding a producer, and will never get comercial.

I listen to everything. It keeps me from grinding into one genre.

why don't you want to get into one genre?

I often just search a specific genre in wikipedia and youtube some artists.

If you're really into music you can search all kinds of genres and out find there's way more music than your radio thinks.

'grind' from one genre to another

I NEVER listen to the radio. Except to the morning show when I wake up on school days.

My taste in music cannot be described with genres or artists, because I like almost everything: jazz, reggae, heavy metal, hard rock, synthpop, modern pop, classical music, videogame music, techno, dance, remixes, oldies, foreign songs, indie music, disco, piano music, emo music, funk, oldschool hip/hop. I want to listen to everything, not just one genre. For those who say "everything except metal sucks" or anything like that are oblivious.

I never said I didn't. I said I wouldn't like to be stuck listening to only one genre.

And that sentence was hypothetical.
