Just out of curiosity, why a laptop?

And I'm bad with laptops so I can't help you unfortunately.

From what I've heard laptops are not the best for gaming.

Laptops are FINE for gaming, but honestly, their ALL expensive. Maybe not to Alienware's extreme, but they all are.

Save yourself the money and buy a Shuttle PC/Mini PC/Shoebox PC.

laptops r way too expensive to play high end games with high gfx and shit
Especially if u want to play next years games u will have to upgrade or buy a new one
I would say buy a good gaming PC for home and spent a little money for a small portable laptop (not the expensive ones, im talking about 300-500E) that will help u have internet all teh time and do ur projects at college when u have free time

I'd like to try one of these Mini PC's
They're like 300 Euro

I think that if I go to college, I'm gonna take my PC with me, and buy one of those cheap laptops to do portable work on.

At least I said I wouldn't answer the question, and why. So my expectations are fully met. Smile

Cheaper than Alienware, eh? Thing is, as far as Gaming Laptops go, they're not that bad. Either way, spend an extra 100 pounds and pick this up:
http://alienware.co.uk/configurator_pages/m17.aspx?SysCode=PC-EU-LT-M17&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT

I'd try and get some more cash to either bump up the 160HDD space or to get the WideUXGA resolution upgrade, but either way, that's not a bad buy. I'm surprised it seems that cheap.

For the record, I bought myself a fully loaded m15x laptop earlier this year. They're fucking great. I didn't get over spending, I just loved the laptops.
